siacarat - diamonds are forever

siacarat – a brilliant solution when the going gets tough. The new premium product from sia Abrasives achieves surfaces of lasting perfection on any object. siacarat is the key solution for the hardest materials in the automotive, composite materials and mineral materials sectors, including the latest generation of scratch-resistant coatings.

The clever velvet technology combines the ingenious velvet net-backed abrasive with a pressure-equalising special foam insulation and the tried-and-tested siafast fastening system. The result is a three-dimensional abrasive that satisfies the highest demands of quality. To perfect this powerful combination, siacarat involves coating with diamond grinding minerals for efficient matt finishing of the highest order. The main advantage of this top-product is the amazing service life, which is up to 40 times greater* than conventional abrasive.

Application areas for siacarat

Automobile

Matt finishing and refining of very hard surfaces, such as scratch-resistant clear lacquers and conventional lacquers that cannot be processed efficiently enough with conventional abrasives.

Composite materials

Finishing of hard surfaces, such as gel coat and epoxy-based materials, as well as all surfaces that require highly specialised treatment.

Mineral materials

Matt finishing and refining of mineral materials, as well as conventional lacquers where the highest quality is demanded.

Patented 7240 siacarat

With the granting of the patent, the valuable USP (unique selling proposition) of 7240 siacarat is protected from imitation, and helps sia Abrasives to attain a prime position in the abrasives market.

Advantages

An overview of scratch-resistant lacquer technologies

Conventional, cross-linked clear coatings

This clear lacquer has a conventional molecular structure and is characterised by consistent hardness throughout.

Work with mit siaair

Clear coatings with reflow effect

Through specific additives in the clear lacquer, an elastic surface is achieved. Slight micro-scratches nevertheless occur, but, over the course of time and under the effects of cold and hot weather, these are largely reduced until they are barely perceptible.

Work with siaair

Clear coatings with denser cross-linking of the binder

Through a special hardening technique, a consistently denser cross-linking of molecules is achieved. The aim of this is to achieve a scratch- resistant, improved lacquer.

Work with siacarat

Clear coatings with nanotechnology

The top layer of clear lacquer (6 µm) is enriched with silicon particles (SiO2), which produce enhanced scratch resistance. The remaining lacquer layer is of a conventional hardness with normal properties.

Scope of application for siacarat

The main problem is to establish which lacquer technology one is dealing with, so that siacarat can be truly successful and service life is effectively up to 40 times longer* than for conventional abrasives. Unfortunately, no clear information is available, even from the automotive manufacturers.

For this reason, we recommend the use of siacarat wherever...
  • it is not possible to work efficiently enough on scratch-resistant clear lacquer with conventional abrasives.
  • highly specialised treatments are required on hard surfaces.
  • conventional lacquers must be handled to meet the highest demands of quality.
