Having completed the planning phase for a new production unit in Frauenfeld, sia Abrasives will spend about CHF 45 million on a new facility for manufacturing coated abrasives. With this investment, the company is providing for future growth. The first turf for the new building will be cut in spring 2009.
With the detailed planning completed and the planning framework approved by the authorities, the Board of sia Abrasives Holding AG has given the go-ahead to build a new production unit in Frauenfeld. This will provide sia Abrasives with the necessary platform for future growth and ensure its technological edge. By launching this substantial capital investment programme, the Board and Executive Committee are underscoring their confidence in market performance worldwide and making a clear commitment to Frauenfeld as a manufacturing site.
The new unit marks a milestone in the company’s history. Designed for manufacturing considerably wider jumbo rolls than the current production lines, it will feature state-of-the-art technologies and streamlined processes. With this move, sia Abrasives is setting the stage to remain positioned in the market with superior quality products and to develop and offer even more innovative abrasive solutions in future. This will allow the company to open up new market segments, especially for wide belts and in the strongly growing area of micro-abrasives, thereby targeting a large market need. The new technology will increase productivity and generate considerable cost savings. By implementing the comprehensive capital investment project, sia Abrasives will cement its technology leadership and continue to improve the consistency of its product quality.
