sia Abrasives continues on growth course (21/11/2000)
During the first nine months of the current year, the sia Group recorded a marked increase in net sales. At CHF 163.3 million these are 14.8% in excess of the figure for the previous year (CHF 142.2 million). As it did in the first half of 2000, sia Abrasives grew significantly faster than the market as a whole, which meant that the company’s market share increased even further. For the 2000 business year overall, sia Abrasives anticipates growth in net sales to be consistent at around 10% over the year-back level and for EBIT margin to amount to some 10% of net sales.
Personnel changes result from Group’s new structure
The restructuring of the sia Group that was announced in September 2000, which will lead to the creation of three strategic business units "sia Abrasives" (the Group’s core business), "sia microtec" (ultra-fine finishing) and "sia Precise Surfaces SPS" (system solutions for complex surface treatment), has also resulted in staffing changes at management level. Peter A. Schifferle, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Member of the Board of sia Abrasives Holding AG, will be handing over the reins of the "sia Abrasives" business unit to Donat Frei on 1 January 2001. To date, Schifferle has headed "sia Abrasives", which includes the largest Group company (sia Abrasives Industries AG in Frauenfeld) along with the other Group companies. Thanks to his successor coming from within the company, he will be in a position to devote more of his time in future to the strategic development of the sia Group.
Donat Frei, the new head of the "sia Abrasives" business unit and member of the Group Management, has long been in charge of basic production and a member of the Management of sia Abrasives Industries AG. Major aspects of his future duties will include increasing efficiency and production capacities, together with the development of new products.
